Ravens cut candidate could fall right into Jets lap at position of biggest need

Training camp has officially come to a close for the summer, and the next steps for NFL teams are their preseason finales, followed shortly after by final roster cuts. By Sunday at 6 PM Eastern Time, each franchise has to have its roster trimmed down to 53 players.

The New York Jets are no different, and they'll need to figure out not only who should be on their own team, but also what other cast-offs they can scoop up from other teams. One position they should be on the lookout for specifically? Offensive line, particularly on the interior.

New York has five quality starters up front, but the depth behind them is a major concern. Throughout the Jets' first two preseason contests, Green & White signal callers have been under constant duress, and that seemed to be the case at Tuesday's final training camp practice.

Are there any quality offensive linemen around the league who could be cut loose after Sunday's roster cutdown deadline? And if there are, can the Jets get their hands on them?

Ravens OL Andrew Vorhees could be New York Jets roster cut target

The Ebony Birds' Connor Burke named guard Andrew Vorhees as a potential cut candidate for the Baltimore Ravens, and he's certainly a name the Jets should keep an eye on ahead of Sunday.

"Andrew Vorhees started every game last year, and although he wasn't good, that experience could be valuable for a team searching for answers on the offensive line. While he's 27 years old, it's also just his third healthy season. There might be something left to unlock in him."

Burke correctly points out that Vorhees wasn't particularly good in Baltimore last season. Pro Football Focus gave him an overall grade of 54.6 over 17 consecutive starts, ranking him 60th-best among 81 qualified guards.

Luckily for the Jets, they're not in the market for a new starter. Dylan Parham and Joe Tippmann are set to hold things down at the left and right spots, respectively, and are only in need of some depth.

Vorhees may not be an NFL starter, but he may be more trustworthy than, say, Xavier Newman, whom the Jets are currently trusting as their primary backup on the interior.

Cutting ties with Vorhees would save the Ravens $3.6 million in cap space, and while that doesn't seem like a lot, every penny counts when projecting a future contract extension for two-time MVP Lamar Jackson, and the Jets could look to pull a move similar to the Jacksonville Jaguars and flip a Day 3 draft pick for some more depth on their offensive line.

Whether it's a trade or a waiver claim, Vorhees is a name to watch for the Jets, and would go a long way in improving their insurance policy behind the likes of Parham and Tippmann.
