Zach Wilson leads the NY Jets to a clutch 4th-quarter comeback

The NY Jets are a 2-2 football team through four weeks. It hasn't always been pretty. At times it's been downright ugly. But when it mattered most, the Jets were able to lean on the play of second-year quarterback Zach Wilson.

Wilson made his highly-anticipated return to the gridiron on Sunday as the Jets took on the Pittsburgh Steelers on the road. The Jets jumped out to an encouraging 10-0 lead, but Wilson's start to the day was anything but encouraging.

The former second overall pick began the day completing just 8-of-24 passes for 105 yards. He cost the Jets three points at the end of the first half with a forced, ill-advised interception when the Jets were threatening to score.

A high pass to Tyler Conklin tipped off his tight end's hands and was intercepted again in the third quarter. The Jets weren't showing life as Steelers rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett looked to seal the deal after replacing Mitch Trubisky.

But momentum is a funny thing. It can change in an instant — and that's exactly what happened in this game.

Zach Wilson was electric when the NY Jets needed him most

Wilson finished the game completing 10-of-12 passes for 147 yards as he led the Jets on an eventual game-winning touchdown drive. Clutch third and fourth-down pickups were the story of the fourth quarter for Wilson and the Jets.

Corey Davis came through in crunch time finishing with a team-leading five catches for 74 yards and a fourth-quarter touchdown. Breece Hall's extra effort was enough to cross the goal line for the game-sealing score.

But it was Wilson who orchestrated it all. Playing his first regular-season NFL game in nearly 9 months, Wilson was decisive, accurate, and poised in the face of pressures despite an injury-riddled offensive line making things difficult for him all game.

Again, Wilson was far from perfect. The signs of rust were evident early on and it's clear the Jets still have some major issues as a team.

But none of that matters right now. The Jets may not be a very good football team, but they're 2-2. They're winning games. And today, they did so on the back of a clutch performance from their second-year quarterback.
