WATCH: Aaron Rodgers throws gorgeous first NY Jets TD pass
By Justin Fried
NY Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers made his preseason debut with his new team on Saturday, and he wasted little time making a strong first impression. It's safe to say that the Rodgers to Garrett Wilson is going to be something special this year.
Rodgers and the Jets' first offensive drive was stalled following a blind-side block call on veteran Randall Cobb. They didn't wait long to avenge their previous drive, though.
On their very next possession, Rodgers executed a four-play, 52-yard drive, capped off by a gorgeous back-shoulder pass to Wilson in the corner of the end zone for Rodgers' first touchdown as a member of the Jets.
Yes, it's only preseason, but it's hard not to see that play and get excited about what's to come for Rodgers, Wilson, and the Jets this season. I mean, just look at this throw.
The NY Jets already got a taste of the Aaron Rodgers-to-Garrett Wilson connection
Rodgers finished his first preseason game, completing 5-of-8 passes for 47 yards and a touchdown. Three of those five completions went to Wilson, who finished with three catches for 30 yards. Mecole Hardman and Tyler Conklin hauled in the other two Rodgers completions.
It was a picture-perfect preseason debut for Rodgers, who helped give the Jets a 7-0 lead before departing in the first quarter.
The biggest takeaway was likely Rodgers' obvious connection with Wilson. We've heard about the chemistry developing between the two all summer, but it was something different to see it live in a game.
Aaron Rodgers and Garrett Wilson are going to do special, special things this season. You can count on that.
