In the latest episode of The Jet Press Podcast, Justin Fried and Mike Luciano discuss the top NY Jets standouts from the preseason, the most notable remaining roster battles, whether Aaron Rodgers and the starters should play in the preseason, and more.
The show started with a discussion about the Jets' top preseason standouts from the first two games. Players like rookie running back Braelon Allen and cornerback Jarrick Bernard-Convere have significantly boosted their stock this summer.
Allen has emerged as the runaway favorite for the RB2 job and looks likely to be a major part of the Jets' offense while Bernard-Converse not only solidified his roster spot but also put himself in contention to compete for a starting job in 2025.
There are still a few roster spots up for grabs in the Jets' preseason finale against the New York Giants on Saturday. Justin and Mike discussed some of those remaining roster battles, focusing on positions like wide receiver and the defensive line.
Has Takk McKinley secured a place on the Jets' 53-man roster? What do the likes of Eric Watts, Braiden McGregor, and Leonard Taylor III need to do to make their case?
The Jets will also have some difficult decisions to make in their wide receiver room. Who gets the nod between Jason Brownlee and Irv Charles? Does former UFL standout Brandon Smith have a legitimate chance to make the team?
We also broke down the ongoing battle for QB3 between Adrian Martinez and Andrew Peasley. Martinez seems to be the favorite at this stage, but Saturday's game could be the deciding factor.
Justin and Mike also discussed whether Aaron Rodgers and the Jets' starters should play on Saturday before finishing with a breakdown of the Jets' dominant joint practice with the Giants on Wednesday.
