The NY Jets just completed their joint practice against their cross-stadium rivals, the New York Giants, on Wednesday, and star cornerback Sauce Gardner legitimately couldn't help but smile at his foe's misery.
The Jets' defense dominated Wednesday's joint practice, prompting Gardner to wave goodbye to Giants players at the end of the day. Giants rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers even admitted after practice that the Jets' defense "won the day" when asked about Gardner's parting shots.
Evidently, Gardner wasn't very impressed by Daniel Jones or the Giants' offense on Wednesday. He made that clear when speaking to reporters after practice.
When asked for his thoughts on the Giants' starting QB, Gardner paused and couldn't help but crack a smile before finally stuttering his way through to say "He's a good quarterback" in the most disingenuous tone you could imagine.
Gardner proceeded to do his best to save nice things about Jones for the remainder of his answer, very visibly holding back laughter through a smile the entire time. You have to watch the video to fully understand the awkwardness of the interaction.
Sauce Gardner and the NY Jets are laughing at Daniel Jones and the Giants
Jones's struggles this summer have been well-documented, and his performance during his team's joint practice with the Jets on Wednesday did little to boost his stock.
While Jones steered clear of any embarrassing turnovers, his conservative approach led to little success for the Giants' offense. SNY's Connor Hughes reported that just one of Jones's first 10 passes went beyond 10 yards. He refused to throw downfield against this Jets' defense.
It wasn't just the Jets' defense that dominated, either. Giants beat reporter Ralph Vacchiano reported that the matchup between the Jets' offense and the Giants' secondary on Wednesday wasn't exactly a "fair fight."
Aaron Rodgers and Garrett Wilson torched the Giants' defense while Sauce Gardner and the Jets' defense quite literally laughed Daniel Jones out of the building. Wednesday wasn't a particularly good day for Jones and the Giants.
Gardner and the Jets will hope to have the last laugh when these two teams meet in this Saturday's preseason finale.
