By Justin Fried
In the latest episode of The Jet Press Podcast, Justin Fried and Mike Luciano discuss the latest on Haason Reddick, the Michael Carter II extension, and preview the NY Jets' Week 1 game against the San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football.
Football is officially back as the Jets are less than a week away from their season opener against the San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football. But before we could discuss that game, there were a couple of other topics to touch on.
The Jets signed standout slot cornerback Michael Carter II to a three-year, $30.75 million extension on Tuesday, making him the highest-paid player at his position in the NFL.
Carter's extension reflects very positively on the Jets' defensive coaching staff and sends a clear message to Haason Reddick and the rest of the locker room. Show up and you could get paid too.
Justin and Mike also discussed what this could mean for the future of D.J. Reed. Does the Carter extension make it less likely that Reed will be extended? Is this Reed's final year with the Jets?
The conversation then shifted to a discussion about Reddick. The All-Pro pass rusher still hasn't reported at the time of writing and seems likely to miss Week 1 against the 49ers.
The Jets did create roughly $8 million in cap space on Tuesday, however, leading to rumors that a resolution could be near. Justin and Mike break down the latest with Reddick and ponder what the outcome of this situation might be.
Finally, Justin and Mike analyzed the Jets' upcoming game against the 49ers on Monday night. How should the Jets attack the 49ers' defense? What will Aaron Rodgers look like? Which players should Jets fans keep a close eye on? And most importantly, who's going to win? All of that was discussed in detail.
