The NY Jets played a game against the Denver Broncos that may as well have come straight from the last two seasons. A strong defensive performance was let down by some poor quarterback play and a terrible offensive line that led to a 10-9 upset at the hands of a rookie in Bo Nix.

Robert Saleh and the Jets made Nix look like a high-school quarterback in the first half, but they did surrender two scoring drives while being unable to find the end zone. When paired with 13 accepted penalties and five sacks of Aaron Rodgers (who missed some big throws), the final result was a crushing home loss.

While Saleh has some memorable quotes when things are going well, he is prone to sticking his foot in his mouth when the Jets lose. He did that just again against Denver, blaming Mother Nature for his team's inability to beat a rookie with a historically bad first game.

Saleh was quoted as saying this game was "going to be tough sledding no matter what because of the rain." Denver apparently was not impacted by the rain, as they ran the ball to seal the victory while Rodgers and Breece Hall struggled. Come on, Saleh!

Robert Saleh has terrible quote after NY Jets' upset loss to Broncos

Saleh's defensive performance was a weird one. They surrendered just 10 points and forced Nix into a historically bad first half that saw him leave with seven completions and -7 yards passing. Despite all that, the Broncos were able to run the ball despite coming into the game with one of the worst rushing offenses in the league.

Saleh's elite secondary and linebacker room is being let down by a poor defensive line. With Bryce Huff and John Franklin-Myers gone, Jermaine Johnson injured, and Haason Reddick lost in the Springfield Mystery Spot, the emerging Will McDonald and Quinnen Williams are the only above-average players in that group.

Only Williams can play the run well, which led to some painful losses against Denver and San Francisco when the Jets couldn't stop the run. This could be even more problematic next week against the Minnesota Vikings, who have Aaron Jones in the backfield and the red-hot Sam Darnold under center.

The Jets are not dead and buried, but they have no momentum heading into a very tough part of their schedule. Quotes like that from Saleh are not what you want to see from a head coach on the hot seat.
