The NY Jets are a little over a week away from the start of their 2024 training camp. The team's remaining to-do list before the regular season arrives isn't particularly long, but one star player should probably be addressed sooner rather than later.

That player is Haason Reddick, the team's prized offseason addition who chose not to attend OTAs or mandatory minicamp this spring. As we approach the start of training camp, Reddick's ongoing contract dispute has yet to be resolved.

Pro Football Focus's Thomas Valentine recently put together a list of one move every AFC team should make before training camp, and for the Jets, extending Reddick was the obvious choice.

The former All-Pro pass rusher is entering the final year of his contract with $0 in guarantees remaining on the deal. Reports suggest he's looking for a new contract, and the Jets might be forced to make something work in the near future.

The NY Jets should (and likely will) extend Haason Reddick

For starters, the Jets shouldn't be concerned about Reddick's holdout extending into the summer. The two-time Pro Bowler would miss out on $50,000 per day in fines for every day he misses of training camp, and those fines are not rescindable.

Reddick is also aware that he's not going to get paid unless he plays. Sitting out this summer doesn't help his situation, and it certainly doesn't help the Jets, who want to see their star pass rusher at 100 percent for the start of the season.

The Jets and Reddick are both motivated to resolve the situation and work out some sort of extension. It's unlikely the Jets will hand Reddick a long-term deal, but a short-term band-aid contract loaded with guarantees and incentives makes sense for both sides.

That would give Reddick some short-term financial security with the possibility of a larger payday down the line while allowing the Jets to ensure their stalwart pass rusher is on the field and ready for Week 1.

Reddick has the potential to be a true difference-maker in this Jets defense. The 29-year-old has recorded more than 50 sacks over the last four years and tallied 135 pressures over two seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Reddick has been one of the NFL's most productive pass rushers, and the sky is the limit for what he might be capable of as part of this loaded Jets defense. But he needs to be on the field to rack up pressures and sacks.

Expect the two sides to work out an arrangement in the very near future, preferably before training camp begins next week.
