The NY Jets will play host to the upstart Houston Texans in a Week 14 matchup that has very different implications for both teams. While one team is looking to solidify their playoff push, the other is just going through the motions.
At 4-8, the Jets are very much already looking ahead to the 2024 season. Any hopes of Aaron Rodgers returning to save their season and lead the organization back to the playoffs have all but disappeared.
Instead, the Jets will play out the final five games of the season with a regime that is expected to return next year and a quarterback who will likely be playing elsewhere in 2024.
Meanwhile, the 7-5 Texans are in the thick of an AFC playoff picture, having significantly overachieved from their preseason expectations. That's largely due to the stellar play of soon-to-be Offensive Rookie of the Year, C.J. Stroud.
Stroud has been outstanding for the Texans this season and has legitimately played like one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. Stopping him will be no easy task for the Jets today.
The Jets enter this game with a few players already ruled out. Rodgers, of course, has been ruled out with an Achilles injury. Offensive guard Wes Schweitzer was declared out with a calf injury and placed on the injured reserve on Saturday. Wide receiver Jason Brownlee will be absent with an ankle injury.
Defensive lineman John Franklin-Myers (ankle), running back Breece Hall (ankle), and offensive tackle Carter Warren (hip) are all questionable to play today. Hall is expected to play, but Franklin-Myers and Warren could be true game-time decisions.
As for the Texans, they will be without tight end Dalton Schultz, who has been ruled out with a hamstring injury. Wide receiver Noah Brown (knee), offensive tackle George Fant (hip), and defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins (elbow/shoulder) are all questionable. All three are expected to play.
