The NY Jets have wasted little time showing support for their new quarterback as Mike White has quickly captured the respect and admiration of his teammates, perhaps in stark contrast to the perception of his predecessor, Zach Wilson.
This admiration was on display as the Jets got on the team plane to travel to Minneapolis ahead of their Week 13 meeting with the Minnesota Vikings.
Numerous Jets players were spotted wearing "Mike f'ing White" shirts in a video the Jets posted to social media. As for White himself? He was standing next to tight end Tyler Conklin who was also wearing a shirt donning the name of his quarterback.
But White, wanting to show support for his own teammates, was sporting a shirt with Conklin's name on it. Teammates supporting teammates: always a wonderful sight.
The NY Jets are hoping for a repeat performance from Mike White in Week 13
White was handed his first start of the season last Sunday as he helped lead the Jets to a 31-10 victory over the Trevor Siemian-led Chicago Bears. It was White's first start since his disastrous four-interception performance against the Buffalo Bills over a year ago.
This time, things went a little better, however.
White completed 22-of-28 passes for 315 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions. It was one of the best statistical performances by a Jets quarterback in years and it certainly made the team look wise for making the switch away from Zach Wilson.
The Jets continue to insist that Wilson will receive another opportunity at some point, but that depends largely on White's play. If White continues to stack positive performances and, more importantly, the Jets stack wins, it would be hard to justify another switch.
The Jets' locker room has seemingly rallied around White in a way that never quite happened with Wilson under center. As former teammate, cornerback Lamar Jackson, put it last month, White is simply a "very likable" guy.
White will look to lead the Jets to another victory when they take on the Vikings this Sunday.
