NY Jets should be new AFC East favorites after Stefon Diggs trade

Nothing is guaranteed in the NFL, especially for a NY Jets team that hasn't reached the postseason in 13 years. Making any declarative statements or predictions about the Jets always comes with the caveat that: they need to prove it on the field first.

The Jets haven't proven anything yet, but following the Buffalo Bills' trade of superstar wide receiver Garrett Wilson, it's fair to look at the rosters of every team in the AFC East and come to the conclusion that the Jets reign supreme.

Again, this doesn't mean the Jets are guaranteed anything. It does, however, suggest that, at least on paper, the Jets should be considered the favorites to win the AFC East.

A healthy Jets team is the best team in their division. You could have already made that argument prior to Wednesday's shock trade, but it's almost inarguable at this point. The Jets are true contenders.

The NY Jets have the best roster in the AFC East

This is the same Jets team that won seven games a year ago with a combination of Zach Wilson, Tim Boyle, and Trevor Siemian at quarterback. That same Jets team replaces those QBs with Aaron Rodgers and managed to upgrade every other roster weakness.

They revamped their offensive line, adding the likes of Tyron Smith, Morgan Moses, and John Simpson. They signed Mike Williams to bolster their wide receiver room and could still use the 10th overall pick to add another piece there.

Heck, they even managed to upgrade what was one of the best defenses in the NFL last season, trading for All-Pro pass rusher Haason Reddick to replace the departing Bryce Huff.

The Jets are the first team since the 2000 Baltimore Ravens to have five players in their starting defense named to an All-Pro team over the previous two seasons. They possess the most talented defense in the NFL — and that really isn't up for debate at this point.

The variables with this Jets team are obvious. While their ceiling may be Super Bowl, their floor remains low due to injury concerns and genuine uncertainty surrounding their quarterback.

Rodgers should, if healthy, be a sizable upgrade over what the Jets were trotting out last season, but that doesn't mean he's going to be anywhere close to his pre-injuries self. Rodgers, himself, is an important variable.

Nonetheless, we're talking about a healthy Jets team here. We're talking about a best-case scenario for every team in the AFC East.

The Jets have a higher ceiling than any team in their division. In fact, you could argue they have one of the highest ceilings of any team in the NFL.

Will things finally go right for Gang Green? That remains to be seen. But on paper, this is the most talented Jets team in years and one of the most talented teams in the league.
