The Green Bay Packers were embarrassed by the NY Jets at Lambeau Field on Sunday, losing by a final score of 27-10 in front of their home crowd. Rookie cornerback Sauce Gardner added to the ridicule after the game concluded.
Amidst the celebration of the Jets' third consecutive victory, Gardner was able to find one of the Packers' famous cheeseheads, and he celebrated in the only logical way: by wearing it.
Gardner trotted around Lambeau Field with the cheesehead on his head, only for Packers wide receiver Allen Lazard to run over and smack the hat off before jogging to the locker room.
It didn't take long for Gardner to place the hat back on his head. In fact, the rookie cornerback was spotted with the cheesehead still in his hands when greeting fans outside the stadium more than an hour after the game.
Call it a reward for an outstanding performance. He earned it.
Sauce Gardner and the NY Jets cruised to a three-score victory in Week 6
Gardner was part of a Jets defensive performance that dominated Sunday's game. In fact, you could argue that this was Gardner's best game as a pro, which is saying a lot seeing as he won Rookie of the Week a week ago.
The Packers were held to just 278 yards and just 60 on the ground. The Jets' pass rush finished with four sacks, 12 QB hits, and 19 pressures, and much of that was aided by an outstanding performance from Gardner and the secondary.
Don't look now but the Jets have won three in a row and could find themselves in first place in the AFC East by the end of the day. They're a good football team. They're a fun football team.
May the good times continue to roll in Florham Park.
