The NY Jets are officially legitimate playoff contenders
By Justin Fried
The NY Jets are a good football team. It's been seven years since that phrase could be said without any hints of sarcasm, ridicule, or mockery. But at this stage, it's an impossible fact to deny.
The Jets surged to a three-score victory over the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field on Sunday, winning by a final score of 27-10. It wasn't always easy, but the final result paints the picture.
The Jets blew out the Packers on the road, a week after they blew out a division rival by 23 points at home. A bad football team doesn't do that. Good football teams do that. Playoff contenders do that.
It's impossible to ignore this team and the success they've found. They've won three games in a row with winnable matchups against the Denver Broncos and New England Patriots on tap.
There's a chance this Jets team is in first place in the AFC East heading into Week 7. Time for Robert Saleh to share those receipts — the Jets are for real.
The NY Jets are officially a good football team
The Jets weren't perfect on Sunday — far from it, in fact. Zach Wilson and the offense struggled to get going for most of the game. Outside of Breece Hall and the run blocking, the Jets' offense was downright ugly for the majority of the day.
But it didn't matter. The Jets' defense put together their most complete performance of the season, and quite frankly, one of the best performances we've seen from a Jets defensive unit in a while.
The pass rush was active. The run defense limited Aaron Jones and A.J. Dillon to just 60 yards on the ground. The secondary stepped up with Sauce Gardner playing perhaps his best game as a pro.
From Breece Hall to Quinnen Williams to Sauce Gardner, the Jets have an established core of young players who have carried them to victories this season. Good football teams have that.
The Jets are a good football team. They're 4-2 with very winnable games on the horizon. It's a weird feeling for Jets fans who have endured loss after loss over the last seven years.
But it's true — the Jets are playoff contenders. This isn't a mirage. It's not an optical illusion or a hallucination.
This is reality. The Jets have arrived.
