NY Jets reporters hint Haason Reddick holdout will end in next 48 hours
By Justin Fried
Haason Reddick has not stepped foot in the NY Jets' team facility since the time of his introductory press conference in early April. Reddick told reporters during his press conference that he was excited about the upcoming season and that his contract situation would not affect his roster status.
Evidently plans changed, and Reddick has now been holding out for months as we approach the start of the regular season. It's officially September and Reddick is still nowhere to be found.
The end of this drama-filled situation might be in sight, however. ESPN's Rich Cimini recently spoke with Will Parkinson of the "Turn on the Jets Podcast" this weekend and insisted that this upcoming Tuesday makes a ton of sense as the date Reddick might finally report.
The Jets don't have practice on Monday because of Labor Day, but the team returns to the practice field on Tuesday as they will officially begin preparation for their Week 1 meeting with the San Francisco 49ers.
The fines for Reddick's holdout increase dramatically following Labor Day, given that it's officially a game week. If Reddick doesn't report by Tuesday, it's highly likely that he will miss regular-season action. That wouldn't benefit anyone, though.
NY Jets' Haason Reddick might finally end his holdout by Tuesday
Parkinson later doubled down on his opinion that Reddick would show up on Tuesday, tweeting out a simple "Yes" to the question of whether Reddick would end his holdout within the next 48 hours.
The consensus seems to be that Reddick should be back in the Jets' building by Tuesday, setting him up for a potential debut in Week 1. There wouldn't really be any benefit to him continuing to hold out into the regular season.
Cimini openly pondered what Reddick believes his end game in this situation is, and it's a fair question. The All-Pro edge rusher wants to get paid, but he's not getting paid by the Jets or any team by sitting at home. That only serves to hurt his value.
Reddick isn't going to have his trade request fulfilled, as there isn't an NFL team willing to trade for him and give him the contract he wants. His options are to sit out and tank his value or show up and play. That's basically it.
Reddick has already accumulated over $3 million in total fines at the time of writing, and those fines will increase significantly starting this week. Now is the perfect time for the former Philadelphia Eagles pass rusher to report.
The Haason Reddick situation has been a stain on the reputation of both player and team, but following months of dispute, we might finally be nearing a conclusion. Stay tuned.
