NY Jets receive encouraging initial update on Morgan Moses injury
By Justin Fried
The NY Jets' triumphant Week 3 victory over their bitter rivals, the New England Patriots, was a reason for celebration, but the mood was tempered when right tackle Morgan Moses exited the game with a knee injury late in the third quarter.
Moses appeared to have his leg rolled up on an Aaron Rodgers sack and remained down on the field for several moments in a great deal of pain. The veteran offensive tackle was able to walk off the field without a cart but not without the assistance of trainers.
Moses was later seen walking to the locker room with what the Jets referred to as a knee injury. He did not return, although that was the expectation given the blowout nature of Thursday night's 24-3 win.
Jets head coach Robert Saleh told reporters after the game that Moses is set to undergo an MRI on Friday which should reveal the severity of the injury. Fortunately, the Jets received some positive initial news regarding Moses’ condition, providing hope that this setback won’t be a long-term issue.
Initial Morgan Moses injury update is positive for NY Jets
NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported after the game that Moses indicated to him that his injury was "not believed to be a severe one." Testing will be done to determine the specifics of the injury, but it does appear that Moses avoided any long-term ailments.
The Jets acquired Moses in a trade with the Baltimore Ravens this past offseason, bringing the 11-year veteran back to Florham Park after two years away from the team.
He's been a part of a revamped Jets offensive line that has been one of the team's biggest strengths through three games. Moses is an important cog in the Jets' offensive line and it wouldn't be ideal if he was forced to miss any time.
The good news is the Jets have rookie first-round pick Olu Fashanu waiting in the wings behind Moses and Tyron Smith. Fashanu filled in for Moses at right tackle for the final quarter of Thursday's game and would likely start in his place if the latter were to miss games.
While the Jets seem hopeful that Moses avoided any serious injuries to his knee, he could still be sidelined for a few weeks depending on the nature of the injury. The Jets do have 10 days off before their Week 4 meeting with the Denver Broncos, though. That's working in their favor.
While the initial worry over Moses’s injury may have dampened the mood following the Jets' win, there’s reason to believe the setback won’t derail the team’s momentum. Jets fans can breathe a bit easier with the expectation that Moses could return sooner rather than later.
