It's official. Tom Brady is retiring after 22 NFL seasons, and the NY Jets could not be more pleased about the news.

After an erroneous leak caused Brady to publicly comment that he had not yet made a decision about his future, Brady officially called it quits on Tuesday. Brady posted a farewell statement on his social media thanking the Bucs franchise and many others for helping him live out his dream.

In the same vein, we believe Brady should have also thanked the Jets franchise as well for allowing him to add so many wins to his overall record.

Jets fans were cautious to believe Brady's retirement news this time around, but it seems like their prayers were finally answered. No more Brady. For the rest of time.

NY Jets celebrate Tom Brady's retirement and pay respect to the GOAT

"We may not miss seeing you on the field" has got to be the biggest understatement of the year.

Brady finished 31-8 against the Jets in his career, recording an average of 245.4 yards per game and throwing for 64 total touchdowns against 17 interceptions.

No other quarterback in history has inflicted as much damage as Brady has done to the Jets ever since he was drafted in 2000. After two decades, New York can finally move on.

And move on they will, with promising talents in Zach Wilson, Elijah Moore, and other young starlets. Brady singularly defined so many years of the Jets/Patriots rivalry that fans may never feel the same again — in a good way.

The Jets congratulated the future Hall-of-Famer for a truly legendary career, as all players and teams should. But don't mistake that gesture for any kind of longing or regret.

Out with the old, in with the new.
