NY Jets QB Zach Wilson takes blame for SNF loss despite a career night

Zach Wilson has nothing to be ashamed of. With his NY Jets and NFL careers on the line in a primetime match against the Kansas City Chiefs, the former No. 2 overall pick put together what quite possibly could be the best game of his life.

Wilson finished 28-of-39 for 245 yards and a touchdown. He outplayed the best quarterback in football, setting new career highs in the process and nearly willing the Jets to one of the most improbable wins in franchise history.

Despite this, Wilson took ownership for the loss when speaking to the media after the game. Referring to his crucial fourth-quarter fumble, Wilson told reporters, "I cannot do that. I lost us that game, and I cannot do that."

The former BYU standout dropped a snap at around midfield with a little over seven minutes remaining in the game. That would be the last time the Jets would have the ball on offense.

Wilson was spotted on the sideline talking to Thomas Morstead late in the fourth quarter as the Chiefs were running out the clock. Wilson could be seen telling the Jets punter, "I lost the game. It’s my fault, bro."

Despite his late fumble, Wilson obviously has nothing to be ashamed of. The 24-year-old was a large reason why the Jets remained competitive with an uber-talented Chiefs game.

With the entire NFL world expecting him to fail, Wilson came out and put together the best performance of his football career. He did so under the bright lights of Sunday Night Football — an environment the Jets hadn't inhabited in over a decade.

If anyone's to blame for the Jets' crushing loss to Kansas City, it's probably the NFL referees, who blew two crucial calls late in the game, allowing the Chiefs to run out the clock.

A missed holding call on Jermaine Johnson, followed by an embarrassing holding penalty on Sauce Gardner that wiped out a Michael Carter II interception, ultimately cost the Jets this game.

That's not on Zach Wilson. That's on the NFL.

Wilson was outstanding for most of the game, even including the unfortunate dropped snap. It's nice to see the Jets' young quarterback take ownership for the team's loss, but as Robert Saleh said after the game, he has absolutely nothing to be ashamed of.
