NY Jets punter Braden Mann rightfully wins Player of the Week

NY Jets punter Braden Mann put together an impressive performance in Week 2 and earned AFC Special Teams Player of the Week. Well done.

This is Mann's first award in the category and he's only the third Jets punter to earn that honor. Before him, Ryan Quigley won it in 2015 and Tom Tupa won it in 2001.

It was Mann's onside kick that led to the Jets overcoming a 13-point deficit at the end of the game to beat the Cleveland Browns in Week 2; Mann also successfully converted a fake punt attempt in the first quarter to sustain a key offensive drive.

In total, Mann punted four times, two punts of which landed inside the 20-yard line. If not for Mann, the Jets likely would not have clinched the unexpected victory.

Special teams remains one of the most overlooked units in football, and the Jets are grateful to have someone like Mann on the team despite his inconsistent performances in recent times.

Other Jets players played a large part in defeating the Browns: Garrett Wilson put together a jaw-dropping performance, Joe Flacco actually looked like an "elite" quarterback, and Ashtyn Davis came away with a game-sealing interception.

Mann put himself in the history books with his masterful Week 2 performance. Per Ethan Greenberg, Mann's successful onside kick was New York's first onside kick in a victory since 1972. It marked just the sixth time in franchise history that the Jets recovered an onside kick attempt.

Mann's fake punt in the first quarter was also the team's first successful fake since 2017. Here's to many more "firsts" in 2022.
