There has been a lot of speculation surrounding the future of NY Jets wide receiver Corey Davis this offseason, but on Friday, Jets head coach Robert Saleh put an end to that speculation.

Saleh spoke to reporters on Friday and was asked again about Davis' roster status. The third-year head coach offered praise for his receiver and definitely said that Davis "will be on this team" this season.

There you have it, straight from the Jets' head coach. Despite months of rumors and speculation that Davis would be released or traded, the Jets have essentially confirmed that he will be on the roster come Week 1.

While Saleh and the Jets have hinted at it in the past, Friday was the first time the Jets decisively insisted that Davis isn't going anywhere.

Expect Corey Davis to be on the NY Jets' roster in 2023

Davis seemed like the most likely cut candidate for the Jets entering the offseason. The 28-year-old wideout was coming off another injury-riddled campaign in 2022, and given the Jets' tricky cap situation, his contract seemed to be one they'd be willing to move on from.

Davis is due to make roughly $11.2 million in 2023, but the Jets could trade or release him at any time with under $1 million in dead cap. Releasing Davis would more than double the team's available cap space.

Given the additions of Allen Lazard and Mecole Hardman in free agency, Davis' days with the Jets appeared to be numbered. But here we are in early May, and Saleh just confirmed his roster spot is secure.

The Jets still have faith that Davis could reach his full potential in New York. His first two seasons have been marred by injury, as he's appeared in just 22 of a possible 34 games with the team, but he showed last season how effective he can be.

Davis was one of the most productive wide receivers in the NFL on third downs last season, and he finished the year with just one dropped pass on 64 targets — a far cry from his five drops on 59 targets in 2021.

The Jets love Davis' blocking ability and see him as an important part of their offense. Despite the rumors and logical reasons for his expected departure, Davis isn't going anywhere.

Corey Davis will be on the Jets' roster in 2023, and that should be seen as a good thing for the team's skill position group.
