NY Jets news: Tyron Smith injury, Jason Brownlee impressing, Jets to face top rookie
- Tyron Smith misses practice due to "tightness"
- Jason Brownlee starting to impress
- Jets will face Jayden Daniels

The NY Jets have been cautious with left tackle Tyron Smith this summer, keeping him on a similar limited schedule to the one the Dallas Cowboys had him on a year ago. Some eyebrows were raised when Smith was absent again from Jets practice on Monday, however.
The All-Pro left tackle sat out of the Jets' Green and White Scrimmage on Saturday and was sidelined for Monday's practice as well (the Jets had off on Sunday), marking consecutive "rest days" for him.
Jets head coach Robert Saleh told reporters that Smith was dealing with "tightness" and that he was held out as a precautionary measure. The Jets expect Smith to return to practice today.
It's not ideal for Smith to be missing any practice time due to non-rest purposes, but this doesn't appear to be a serious issue. If he misses practice again on Tuesday, it might be time to be a little concerned.

Jason Brownlee starting to impress in practice
The battle for the final couple of roster spots on the Jets' wide receiver depth chart has been fierce this summer, and one player who's finally starting to make a push is second-year wideout Jason Brownlee.
After a slow start to camp, Brownlee has been making plays in practice, taking full advantage of the increased reps with the likes of Mike Williams, Xavier Gipson, and Malik Taylor sidelined.
Jets head coach Robert Saleh spoke highly of Brownlee following another strong practice on Monday, insisting that the former UDFA has turned it on in recent days. He insisted the coming weeks will be massive for the young wide receiver.
Brownlee will need to carry over his recent momentum into the preseason if he wants to secure a roster spot. He's fighting with the likes of Malik Taylor, Irvin Charles, and others for a role on the team.
Jets will face Jayden Daniels on Saturday
The Jets are set to begin their 2024 preseason this Saturday when they take on the Washington Commanders, and they're set to get a close look at one of the top prospects in the 2024 NFL Draft class.
Commanders head coach Dan Quinn confirmed this past weekend that rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels will play in Washington's preseason opener on Saturday. Daniels has been splitting reps with veteran QB Marcus Mariota in training camp.
Quinn did not confirm if Daniels or Mariota will start the game, but it's likely the Jets will get to see both players on Saturday. They'll also get an even closer look at them when the two teams meet for a joint practice together on Thursday.
The Jets will do their best to welcome Daniels to the NFL in the only way they know how. Robert Saleh's defense is already licking their chops.
