The NY Jets participated in a joint practice with the New York Giants on Wednesday, but one notable player was absent. That's because rookie offensive tackle Olu Fashanu was forced to sit out with an elbow injury.

Jets head coach Robert Saleh told reporters prior to practice that Fashanu was dealing with a strained elbow and that he would not participate that day. Saleh did note that the injury is not considered a concern at this time.

Fashanu started the Jets' last preseason game against the Carolina Panthers at right tackle and participated in practice earlier this week, so it's unclear when the injury occurred. The good news is that the Jets don't seem to be concerned at this time.

Fashanu has impressed the Jets this summer, proving that he can serve as an important insurance policy at both tackle spots in 2024. His status for this Saturday's preseason game remains to be seen.

Sauce Gardner clarifies his comments about Daniel Jones

Sauce Gardner and the Jets' defense had a bit of a laugh at Daniel Jones's expense following Wednesday's dominant showing in the team's joint practice with the New York Giants.

Gardner was visibly smiling and appeared to be holding back laughter when asked his thoughts on Jones after practice. Many interpreted Gardner's comments as a sign of disrespect, but the two-time All-Pro later attempted to clarify the awkward interaction on social media.

Gardner claimed that he "got distracted by something" during the interview, insisting that he referred to Jones as "a good quarterback," which is true. Still, I'm not sure Gardner's explanation aligns with the video in question.

The Jets got the last laugh on Wednesday — figuratively and potentially literally. Jones and the Giants hope to respond this Saturday in their preseason finale.

The Jets are THE New York team according to Chuck Clark

Jets safety Chuck Clark is eager to return to the field after missing the entire 2023 season due to a torn ACL. After laying out Panthers running back Chuba Hubbard during last week's joint practice, Clark did the same to Giants running back Eric Gray on Wednesday.

The veteran safety told reporters after practice that players on the field were trash-talking each other, with each side claiming to be the true New York team. After Wednesday's practice, Clark insists there's an obvious correct answer: the Jets.

The Jets dominated both sides of the ball on Wednesday, with Aaron Rodgers, Garrett Wilson, and the Jets' offense having their way with the Giants' secondary and the Jets' defense making life difficult for Daniel Jones and company.

Perhaps the true unofficial test will be this Saturday's preseason game. The Jets have won three consecutive preseason matchups with their cross-stadium rivals and won in the regular season last year.
