The NY Jets have a serious problem on offense, and it starts with Zach Wilson. The Jets' offense is a trainwreck. It's unwatchable. There are a myriad of issues with this Jets' offense, but it all starts with Wilson.
In Wilson's defense, this was actually the best game the third-year quarterback has ever played against the New England Patriots. Unfortunately, Wilson's stat line doesn't exactly do him any favors.
The former No. 2 overall pick finished 18-of-36 for 157 yards. In reality, the stats don't even tell the whole story. 29 of those yards came on what was essentially a garbage-time pass to Garrett Wilson.
The Jets' offense is broken, and it's not just Wilson. There are serious questions about Nathaniel Hackett. The Jets' offensive line remains a major work in progress...to put it lightly. The Jets' skill position group isn't ideal.
But it all comes down to Wilson. He's not good enough. He's not playable. The Jets have to make a change.
Zach Wilson can't be the NY Jets' starting quarterback next week
What makes Wilson such a frustrating quarterback analysis is that he has streaks of impressive play. When Wilson is in a rhythm, he can actually run the offense. Unfortunately, one bad play from the Jets' offense throws everything out of whack.
He loses his confidence. He loses his composure. He loses everything.
Wilson's struggles weigh on the entire team. Garrett Wilson blew up on the sideline mid-game. Michael Carter got into a heated argument with running backs coach Taylor Embree.
The coaching staff risks losing the entire team if they continue to trot Wilson out at quarterback. The Jets players know this is a Super Bowl-caliber roster. The defense did its job today.
This is who Zach Wilson is. He's been given opportunity after opportunity to prove that he can at least play competent football. He can't. He just can't. That's the reality of his situation.
The Jets need to make a change at quarterback. Zach Wilson's time as the starting quarterback needs to be over. There's no waiting until tomorrow, no waiting until next week. The change has to happen now.
