NY Jets 2022 free agent tracker: Who’s coming and going in New York?
By Justin Fried
The NY Jets are set to have nearly 20 unrestricted free agents this offseason and numerous difficult decisions are going to have to be made.
While the Jets don't have any true top-end talent that's expected to hit the open market, there are a few notable players who the team could consider bringing back in the right situation.
At the same time, the Jets are expected to be more aggressive this offseason than in recent years. General manager Joe Douglas is well aware that he needs to put together a roster that can be competitive in 2022.
Building through the draft can only get a team so far. Sometimes, the necessary moves need to be made in free agency as well to field a roster that can compete for the postseason.
We will be updating this tracker as the months go on and free agency officially kicks off. For now, let's take a look at which Jets players are set to be free agents and which players the team might consider retaining.
Who are the NY Jets 2022 unrestricted free agents?
- FB Nick Bawden
- WR Braxton Berrios
- WR Keelan Cole
- RB Tevin Coleman
- WR Jamison Crowder
- LB Jarrad Davis
- OG Laurent Duvernay-Tardif
- DT Folorunso Fatukasi
- OG Dan Feeney
- QB Joe Flacco
- S Lamarcus Joyner
- TE Tyler Kroft
- S Marcus Maye
- OT Conor McDermott
- OT Morgan Moses
- S Will Parks
- K Eddy Pineiro
- OT Greg Senat
- DT Nathan Shepherd
The Jets have a total of 19 players who are projected to be unrestricted free agents this offseason. Of those 19, they will likely look to move on from the vast majority of them.
A couple of notable names who are near locks to be looking for new homes are Marcus Maye and Jamison Crowder. Both veterans have had quality careers in New York, but it's time for both sides to move on.
The Jets could look to re-sign a few of these players as well. Of the more significant free agents, Braxton Berrios, Morgan Moses, Folorunso Fatukasi, and Laurent Duvernay-Tardif seem like players the Jets could consider bringing back.
Don't rule out role players like Tevin Coleman and Tyler Kroft returning on cheap, one-year deals either. Kicker Eddy Pineiro is an under-the-radar name the Jets will probably re-sign given how he performed late in the season.
There are some interesting decisions to be made for sure.
Who are the NY Jets 2022 restricted free agents?
- DE Kyle Phillips (RFA)
- QB Mike White (RFA)
- CB Javelin Guidry (ERFA)
- S Elijah Riley (ERFA)
- WR Jeff Smith (ERFA)
- DE Tim Ward (ERFA)
Barring any unforeseen circumstances, all six of these players will be back with the Jets in 2022. Mike White is undoubtedly the most notable name here, and the only question with him is what round tender the Jets will place on him.
Expect White to be in the mix to be Zach Wilson's backup in 2022 and bringing him back on a cheap deal makes sense for both parties. Others like Kyle Phillips, Javelin Guidry, and Elijah Riley could compete for roles on defense next season.
