Week 1 was a total bust with only 21:20 of total offense, and Week 2 was slightly better yet still sub-par. Week 3 for the NY Jets' offense was their coming out party.
Despite some clunky pre-snap issues, the offense moved up and down the field seamlessly for four quarters. Jets fans finally got to see what they've been waiting for — Aaron Rodgers shining on national television.
There were several different players that made the offense go. Of course, the key was Aaron Rodgers, but the offensive line was excellent (despite the unfortunate injury to Morgan Moses), eight different players caught a pass, and the rushing attack looked completely unstoppable.
Braelon Allen and Breece Hall combined for a total of 109 rushing yards with Rodgers contributing 18 of his own. It is starting to look like the "Killer B's" are going to be a problem for opposing defenses. They accent each other so perfectly.
Breece Hall, though at times a bruiser of his own, has a little bit of Le'Veon Bell in him where he will dance around the line patiently before bursting through the hole at the last second. He's also special out of the backfield as a receiving threat.
Then you have Allen, a 235-pound freight train that hits the hole hard and fast. It seems impossible for him not to go forward on every handoff.
With the dynamic duo of Hall and Allen as such a threat in the backfield, Rodgers and the passing game were able to finally flourish. We saw flashes before this.
There was the incredible first-quarter drive that resulted in a Breece Hall touchdown in the Week 1 loss to San Francisco and there were moments against Tennessee where you saw a little bit of the old Aaron Rodgers.
Aaron Rodgers led a dominant NY Jets offense in Week 3
But on Thursday night, No. 8 was actually back to his old ways. Finishing 27-of-35 with 281 yards and two touchdowns, Rodgers was spraying the ball all over the field like it was 2012 again.
There was a lot of talk about the receivers after their poor showing in both Week 1 and Week 2. Against New England, they combined for 131 yards and two touchdowns. It helps to have one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever throw a football delivering passes to you, but credit where credit is due. The Jets' receiving corps played well.
It's also nice to see that the offensive line has improved significantly from 2023. Sure, Rodgers took some hits, but they opened up running lanes all night and kept a clean pocket for their quarterback pretty consistently overall. The injury to Morgan Moses hurts, but we have to wait and see what the injury report tells us.
Overall, there were a lot of positives to take away from Thursday night. But if there is one thing that should make Jets' fans feel good going into Week 4, it looks like they finally have a really — REALLY — good offense.
