The NY Jets have opted for an interesting approach to their uniforms in 2022. Through the first seven weeks of the season, the Jets are actually yet to wear their primary green color at any point.
That won't change in Week 8 either.
The Jets announced on Tuesday that they will be debuting their new "Stealth Black" alternate helmets at home against the New England Patriots in Week 8. In fact, they'll be going all black with black jerseys and black pants.
The alternate helmets were unveiled back in June and are scheduled to be worn three times this season. First against the Patriots this week and then later against the Chicago Bears (Week 12) and Jacksonville Jaguars (Week 16).
The NY Jets are switching up their uniforms in Week 8
This might not seem like a significant change, but if you're into superstitions, the Jets' uniform switch might be a cause for concern.
The team opted to go with their all-white uniforms in each of the first three weeks of the season. Those uniforms produced mixed results as the Jets started the year 1-2.
They changed things up against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 4 switching out the white pants for black pants. It was only the second time in team history they had worn white jerseys with black pants.
The results were promising as the Jets came from behind to defeat the Steelers and climb back to .500. Perhaps in an effort to keep the good times rolling, the Jets stuck with the same uniform combination in Week 5. They won again.
In fact, the Jets have worn those white jerseys with black pants in each of the four games in their winning streak at the moment. Jets owner Woody Johnson even seemed to acknowledge the superstition on Twitter this past week.
Unfortunately for the extra superstitious folks out there, the Jets will be making a change — one that had been planned for at least four months now. Will it yield different results? That remains to be seen.
Perhaps the magic is in the black pants and not the white jerseys. Either way, the Jets will look to stick to their winning ways when they take on the Patriots this Sunday.
Green helmet or black helmet, white jersey or black jersey, the Jets just want to win football games.
