NY Jets could include Corey Davis in an Aaron Rodgers trade

The NY Jets have been connected to their fair share of Aaron Rodgers trade rumors in recent weeks. With the longtime Green Bay Packers quarterback potentially on the move this offseason, the Jets have seemingly emerged as the top contender.

The Jets remain the betting favorite to trade for Rodgers this offseason, but what exactly might it cost to land him? We recently discussed three potential trade packages for Rodgers, and one of those packages included a specific Jets player in the deal.

That player was wide receiver Corey Davis, another player who could be on the move this offseason.

Davis is a potential cap casualty for the Jets over the coming weeks/months, and he's been connected to the Packers in the past. Could Davis be included in a potential deal for Rodgers? It makes a ton of sense for both sides.

NY Jets WR Corey Davis could be part of a trade for Aaron Rodgers

The Jets originally signed Davis to a three-year, $37.5 million contract prior to the 2021 season with the hope that he could serve as the team's de facto WR1. Davis was coming off a career year with the Tennessee Titans in 2020 that saw him finish with 65 catches for 984 yards and five touchdowns.

There was reason to believe that Davis' production could improve as the Jets' No. 1 target in a more pass-friendly offense. That didn't exactly happen, however.

Davis struggled mightily in his first season, dropping five passes in just nine games before landing on the injured reserve. He finished with just 34 catches for 492 yards and four touchdowns.

The 2022 season wasn't much better for Davis who, again, missed time due to injury while finishing with a career-low 32 catches. Arguably the two worst seasons of his NFL career have come with the Jets.

Davis is set to carry a cap hit of $11.67 million into 2023 but could be released with under $700,000 in dead cap. Rumors suggest that Davis could be a cap casualty this offseason.

However, perhaps the Packers could take him off the Jets' hands as somewhat of a throw-in in a Rodgers trade. Davis wouldn't hold a ton of value given his already uncertain status, but there are reasons to believe the Packers would be interested.

Green Bay was reportedly interested in trading for Davis around the draft last spring, and the team could certainly use a veteran pass-catcher if the plan is to roll with Jordan Love next season.

Allen Lazard and Randal Cobb are both free agents, and they could each very well follow Rodgers to his next destination. Davis would fill an immediate need for the Packers.

The bulk of any Aaron Rodgers trade would undoubtedly be draft compensation, but Davis does make sense as a potential addition to the deal. It's worth a shot.
