Are we living in a simulation?

Bill Belichick is and forever will be a mortal enemy of the NY Jets organization. You'd be hard-pressed to find an individual more despised by the Jets' fan base than the former New England Patriots head coach who spurned the Jets and spent decades tormenting them.

Now an analyst, Belichick has taken a break from the NFL to focus on media coverage of the sport he's coached for nearly the last 50 years. Belichick will have the opportunity to discuss everything going on in the NFL world today, including the Jets.

But while many might expect Belichick to offer a critical viewpoint of his longtime adversaries, the ex-Patriots coach has been rather complimentary of Gang Green.

Belichick praised Breece Hall, Garrett Wilson, and the entire Jets' offense in a recent episode of "COACH with Bill Belichick," his new football show as part of the Underdog media network.

"The Jets are one of the hardest teams to prepare for from a skill standpoint because of Breece Hall. Defensively, you want to do everything you can to get the ball out of his hands. The problem is, if you load the box, you're singled out there on [Garrett] Wilson and that's a tall order to deal with him. On paper, they have a good offense and they're hard to defend with a good quarterback, a great wide receiver, and a great running back."

Bill Belichick is suddenly praising the NY Jets and it's weird

For Jets fans who have spent roughly the last 25 watching Belichick torment their favorite team on and off the field, it can be a bit jarring to hear the longtime Patriots coach sing the praises of his bitter rival. But he definitely has a point.

Hall finished the 2023 season ranked top-four in total scrimmage yards behind only Christian McCaffrey, Tyreek Hill, and CeeDee Lamb. The only three players ahead of him played in top-five offenses. Hall played in the 31st-ranked offense.

He did all of that despite tearing his ACL less than 12 months before the start of the season. Hall put together one of the best seasons by any player coming off an ACL injury in recent memory — it just got overshadowed because of the offense he was a part of.

A similar sentiment can be shared about Wilson, who has topped 1,000 yards in each of his first two seasons despite receiving the worst quarterback play in the NFL.

Of the 273 wide receivers drafted to the NFL between the years 2015 and 2022, only eight have managed consecutive 1,000-yard seasons to begin their pro careers. Wilson being one of those eight with the quarterback play he's been saddled with is nothing short of a miracle.

Hall and Wilson give the Jets one of the best skill position duos in the NFL, and with hopefully competent quarterback and offensive line play, the team's offense could be a legitimate problem for opposing defenses this season.

It's been a long time since the Jets had an offense deserving of this type of praise, which makes it all the more disorienting that said praise is coming from the organization's biggest hater.

The worst person Jets fans know just made a great point. Heartbreaking, indeed.
