NY Jets: 10 bold, optimistic predictions for the 2021 season
By Adam Melendez
6. NY Jets QB Zach Wilson wins Rookie of the Year
If we take the previous predictions into account, such as a top-notch offensive line and a true No. 1 receiver, there's little reason why Zach Wilson can't ball out. I'll go so far as saying that he'll ball to the point of being better than any of the rookies in the league.
Zach Wilson wins the 2021 Rookie of the Year award.
No offensive Jets player has ever won the NFL's Rookie of the Year award. Joe Namath took home the AFC Offensive Rookie of the Year award back in 1965, but that was the last time any player on that side of the ball heard their name called for such an honor.
Wilson will be going up against some stiff competition as well. Trevor Lawrence and Mac Jones will start for their teams while Justin Fields and Trey Lance will likely be sitting for at least a portion of the year before they get their chance to start.
Outside of quarterbacks, the biggest name to watch out for as competition would be Atlanta tight end Kyle Pitts, seen as this draft's biggest sure-fire rookie. Wilson could even see competition from his own teammate Elijah Moore if he stuns the league.
There was a slew of offensive talent in this year's draft, meaning that Zach Wilson will have his work cut out for him.
