Jets Super Bowl 59 odds (Oddsmakers not projecting an Aaron Rodgers-led turnaround in New York)

Can Aaron Rodgers come back from an Achilles injury to lead the Jets to the promised land?

A year ago, the New York Jets had all of the preseason buzz after acquiring four-time Most Valuable Player and five-time All-Pro quarterback Aaron Rodgers in a trade with the Green Bay Packers.

That buzz wouldn’t last long as the Jets lost Rodgers to a season-ending Achilles injury just four snaps into the year. Without Rodgers, the Jets were in the playoff mix in November after a 4-3 start, but New York had one of the NFL’s worst offenses and lost five straight games en route to missing the playoffs for the 13th consecutive season.

Can Rodgers’ return spark a Jets’ turnaround? Oddsmakers are aware of the upside in New York, but aren't necessarily counting on it.

According to FanDuel Sportsbook, the Jets are barely in the top half of the league in odds to win the Super Bowl. The Jets are +3000 to win Super Bowl 59 ($100 bet wins $3,000). That gives New York an implied probability of 3.23% to win its first Lombardi Trophy since the final week of the Lyndon B. Johnson administration.

For what it's worth, the Jets were +1600 to win the Super Bowl last year after trading for Rodgers.

The Jets are tied with the Jacksonville Jaguars as the 14th favorite to win the Super Bowl and they’d have to break free from a loaded AFC to do it.

The Jets are the eighth-favorite out of the AFC, trailing the Kansas City Chiefs (+650), Baltimore Ravens (+900), Buffalo Bills (+1200), Cincinnati Bengals (+1500), Miami Dolphins (+2000), Houston Texans (+2500) and Los Angeles Chargers (+3000). It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that these odds project the Jets to miss the playoffs for the 14th straight year with only seven postseason spots available. The Jets haven’t made the playoff since losing to Pittsburgh in the 2010 AFC Championship Game.

Quarterbacks make up the first 23 spots on the odds board for the AP 2024-25 NFL Regular Season MVP. The Jets and Jaguars are even in the odds board to win the Super Bowl and their quarterbacks are tied for the 12th-favorite to be named MVP. Rodgers is +2500 to win the fifth MVP of his career. Rodgers won back-to-back MVP awards in 2020-2021, but threw for just 3,695 yards and 12 interceptions (his most since 2008) in his last healthy season with Green Bay in 2022.
