The NY Jets have built a tremendous offensive line for Aaron Rodgers, but this much-praised unit suffered their first major injury when Morgan Moses went down. Moses, a pillar of durability for his whole career, was writing in pain during New York's primetime demolition of the New England Patriots.
Moses went down after a Patriots player accidentally rolled over his ankle and twisted his knee. The injury looked so severe that many wondered if that was going to be one of the last times fans ever got to see him in a Jets uniform.
Luckily for both Rodgers and the Jets, the medical testing has shown the injury is not as severe as initially thought. The Jets will need to survive without Moses, but the outlook is by no means as bleak as it appeared initially.
Jets head coach Robert Saleh confirmed that Moses will miss "a couple games" as a result of the knee injury, but he will not need to be placed on injured reserve. After the Jets' Week 4 game against the Denver Broncos, the team will embark on three straight primetime games, including a London duel against the Vikings and Monday Night matchup against the Bills.
Jets get positive injury update on starting RT Morgan Moses
Moses has missed just three games since 2015, establishing himself as the picture of durability. In true Jets fashion, Moses was hurt on a freak play that no one could have seen coming. This is a tough blow, as Moses was playing well to start the season.
Moses, one of three new starting offensive linemen the Jets added in the offseason alongside Tyron Smith and John Simpson, had yet to allow a sack this season, and his pressure rate allowed is solid. No. 11 overall pick Olu Fashanu, expected to spend a year learning under Smith as a left tackle, will start at right tackle.
While Fashanu, who played left tackle in college, looked very good against the Patriots when called into action, he didn't play long enough to gain a ton of insight into his long-term potential. Still, his quick feet and solid pass protection anchor will play well at right tackle.
While Fashanu is the future, Moses is the here-and-now for a team eyeing a ring. If Moses is able to get back on the field after just a few games and play at the same level he had previously, the Jets shouldn't miss a beat on offense.
