It's not often that the NY Jets are associated with the "winning teams" of the NFL, but after a 5-2 start to the year, it's impossible to overlook the success the Jets have found. Just ask new running back James Robinson.
Robinson was traded to the Jets on Monday for a conditional sixth-round pick that could become a fifth-rounder. In the process, he was sent from one of the worst teams in the NFL to one of the best, at least from a record perspective.
The 2-5 Jacksonville Jaguars phased Robinson out of their offense and ultimately forced him out the door. As for the 5-2 Jets, they'll be turning to Robinson to help fill the massive hole left by the loss of star rookie running back Breece Hall.
Robinson was asked about what it feels like to go from a "losing team to the Jets," and he seemed excited about the opportunity.
"“I love the vibe. There’s a lot of guys that want to win and I can see that. At practice, I can see that, too. It feels pretty good, I’ll tell you, to go to 5-2 from 2-5."James Robinson
James Robinson is excited to get started with the NY Jets
Robinson didn't sound too happy when discussing his former team this week. The former undrafted free agent disputed that the reason he sat on Sunday was due to "knee soreness," indicating that he believed the Jaguars were using an "excuse" not to play him.
Considering he was required to pass a physical for the trade to be executed, it's hard to imagine he's wrong here. Robinson will now have an opportunity to show the Jaguars what they're missing out on in what could be a pretty important role in the Jets' offense.
The 24-year-old will be asked to split touches with Michael Carter in a Jets' offense that has relied heavily on the ground game this season. There's no replacing Hall, but Robinson is a young, proven running back who rushed for 1,000 yards just two years ago.
And now, instead of sitting on the sideline for one of the worst teams in the NFL, he has a chance to help the Jets make a playoff push. Needless to say, James Robinson is very happy with this trade.
