Garrett Wilson fulfills young NY Jets fan's prophecy and 'cooks' Emmanuel Forbes

The NY Jets and Washington Commanders held a joint practice together on Thursday, and it quickly became apparent to everyone in attendance who the better football team was. Nowhere was this more evident than in the matchup between Garrett Wilson and Emmanuel Forbes.

The Jets' superstar wide receiver was the most dominant player in practice on Thursday. Despite the heavy rain and the lack of one Aaron Rodgers throwing him passes, Wilson absolutely torched the Commanders' secondary, most notably the team's 2023 first-round pick.

Forbes was the victim of numerous long Wilson touchdown passes from Tyrod Taylor. The former Mississippi State standout's rough practice was highlighted by a viral video of a young Jets fan predicting his eventual demise.

In the video, a young Jets fan can be heard predicting that Wilson was about to "cook" Forbes, just as he had been doing all day. A few seconds later, Wilson was streaking by Forbes for a long touchdown grab, all while the young fan shouted "I told you" at the much-maligned Commanders defensive back.

That Forbes video serves as a microcosm for what Thursday's practice was like for Commanders. Taylor and the Jets torched Washington's secondary, the Jets' starting offensive line opened gaping holes for Breece Hall, and the Jets' defense dominated rookie quarterback Jaylen Daniels.

Daniels finished team drills completing just 7-of-15 passes, with almost every one of his attempts being a check down. Commanders reporter Lynnell Willingham insisted that Daniels did not attempt a pass longer than 25 yards all day, and he still completed under 50 percent of his attempts.

Rookie wide receiver Malachi Corley hauled in a beautiful pass from undrafted quarterback Peasley on a corner route. Allen Lazard made an excellent sliding grab from Taylor in the rain. And I think even those in attendance lost track of how many highlight-reel plays Wilson made throughout the day.

Forbes has already come under significant criticism for his performance as a rookie last season. His showing in practice on Thursday certainly didn't help boost his stock.

It's been a long time since the Jets dominated a joint practice to the degree that they did on Thursday, and they did it all without their star quarterback who was held out as a precaution due to the weather.

It may just be practice, but it's hard not to be optimistic about this Jets team entering the 2024 season. If Thursday's practice proved anything, it's that Garrett Wilson is ready to take that superstar leap this year.
