Remember Corey Davis? The former NY Jets' wide receiver who disappointed after signing a three-year deal in 2021 is apparently back — kind of. He tried out for division rival and perhaps the Jets' biggest obstacle to a Super Bowl, the Buffalo Bills.

Thought to be a potential long-term boon for the offense, Davis only completed two seasons for the Jets before an unexpected retirement at the age of 28. It was hard to make sense of this, being that Davis was set to play with the greatest QB he would ever catch passes from in Aaron Rodgers. But at a ripe young age, he was gone.

Fast forward a year, and he is coming out of his brief retirement. Looking to spark a return, he has worked out for the Buffalo Bills. Though this is unlikely to mean too much for the Jets, it comes as a bit of a slap in the face the same week that Haason Reddick reportedly demanded to be traded. It may be illogical, but it feels like certain players just do not want to play for the Jets (shout out to Peyton Manning).

It's a strange phenomenon being that this is arguably the best the Jets have ever been. And the truth is, it's unlikely Davis retired early solely to escape New York. Nevertheless, it comes as a surprise to see him attempting a return after such a sudden exit from the sport.

Returning just to sign with a division rival would be a bit of a gut punch. Maybe it wasn't the only reason for his retirement, but he clearly isn't in love with the idea of being a Jets' wide receiver.

Corey Davis' return points to his lack of desire to play for the NY Jets

Davis finished his Jets' career with 66 receptions for 1,028 yards in 22 games. Though these numbers won't knock anyone's socks off, they aren't too bad considering the QB play.

Prior to his Jets' career, Davis had some very formidable seasons for the Tennessee Titans. So at 29, it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility for him to be something of an impact player.

Everything is still up in the air for Davis. There are more questions than answers. How much does he have left in the tank? Where will he work out next? Who will he be playing for in 2024? Will he be playing in 2024?

Only time will tell, but one thing for certain is this is a headline no one was expecting to hear.
