Deebo Samuel trade and 5 NY Jets predictions for the 2022 NFL Draft
By Nathan Smith
The 2022 NFL Draft is fast approaching, and while it’s an exciting time for all NFL fans, the NY Jets especially are looking forward to this occasion. It’s another chance to improve this team as they seek to make the playoffs for the first time in over 10 years.
After the draft in 2021 that secured the team Zach Wilson, Alijah Vera-Tucker, Elijah Moore, and some quality in the later rounds, Jets fans are rightfully optimistic about this year. The Jets are armed with five picks inside the top-100, including No. 4, No. 10, No. 35, and No. 38.
Still, anything can happen on draft day, and after the craziest offseason in NFL history, it wouldn’t surprise us if the draft followed suit. Here are five Jets related predictions for the upcoming 2022 NFL Draft.
1. The NY Jets don’t trade for a big-name wide receiver
Everyone knew that heading into the offseason, getting Zach Wilson more help would be the priority, and while the Jets have got the sophomore QB two new tight ends as well as a Pro Bowl guard, they’re yet to fully address the wide receiver position.
This wasn’t for a lack of trying as the team had a deal in place for Tyreek Hill before he was traded to Miami, but now speculation has turned to three big names: DK Metcalf, A.J. Brown, and most importantly, Deebo Samuel.
The rumors have been swirling since Samuel officially requested a trade from San Francisco, and while that has continued to intensify up until draft night, it still seems unlikely to happen.
Samuel would be a great addition to the Jets, but Joe Douglas seems unlikely to part with either of the upcoming draft's first-round picks. Without a king's ransom, it’s not likely that the 49ers move on from the stud wide receiver.
