The NY Jets are reportedly close to securing a trade for Kansas City Chiefs superstar wide receiver Tyreek Hill. Another franchise cornerstone is expected to be on the move in what has been one of the craziest NFL offseasons to date.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Wednesday that the Jets and Miami Dolphins had emerged as the two favorites to trade for Hill after extension talks with the Chiefs soured in recent days.
Schefter reported that, while other teams have had discussions, he is "likely to wind up as a Jet or Dolphin" with those teams emerging as clear favorites.
The six-time Pro Bowler was looking to secure a new contract this offseason, and after not getting one from the Chiefs, he's expected to get a massive one from his new team.
NY Jets a finalist to trade for Tyreek Hill
The Jets went into the offseason looking to address a variety of needs, and they addressed many of them in free agency adding the likes of Laken Tomlinson, D.J. Reed, and Jordan Whitehead, among others.
However, it seemed abundantly clear that one position that still needed work was wide receiver.
The Jets opted to backload a lot of their free-agent signings this offseason in an attempt to give the team added flexibility in the trade market. There have been hints all offseason about the Jets exploring a bold trade.
They were notably very interested in trading for Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Calvin Ridley before his suspension. Hill represents everything the Jets are looking for in a wide receiver from an on-field perspective.
The three-time All-Pro is likely a top-five wide receiver in all of football with 1,100+ yards in four of his last five seasons. A longtime centerpiece of arguably the best offense in the NFL, Hill would no doubt do wonders for the development of Zach Wilson and the Jets offense.
The Jets aren't going to be outbid here. They have more to offer. It just comes down to where Tyreek Hill wants to play.
Is it Miami or New York? That much remains to be seen.
