3. Michael Carter, RB, NY Jets
Another surprise on the list, Michael Carter is a really good value running back early this season. With both Breece Hall and Dalvin Cook cleared to play Week 1, Carter can currently be found for extremely cheap in daily fantasy leagues.
If this matchup fell in the middle of the season, I wouldn't recommend Carter at all for fantasy leagues, as Cook and Hall will easily see over 90 percent of the snaps.
However, with both on some type of a snap count, I wouldn't be surprised to see Carter handle the third-down duties throughout the game.
Carter's best attribute as he enters year three is his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield. In the loss last year, while playing on a hurt ankle, Carter still managed to carry the ball five times and also added three catches for 15 yards.
When he was healthy in the November upset, Carter tallied 12 carries for 76 yards and a score while adding a catch for 10 yards as well.
I don't think Carter will dominate the backfield carries like he did after Hall's injury last year, but I do think he sees some action along the lines of 4-6 carries. If he can find yardage there, it will be a bonus to his output fantasy-wise.
Where I see Carter being valuable to owners is on third downs. With Hall only playing maybe 10-15 snaps and Cook still working his way into the lineup, Carter should be the primary third-down back.
With Rodgers loving to check down to running backs like he did with Aaron Jones for years in Green Bay, I think Carter could be productive in minimal snaps. Not only that, but for Daily Fantasy purposes, getting Carter for cheap should mean extra money for premier wide receivers and tight ends.
The final stat line prediction for Carter looks like four carries for 17 yards and five catches for 22 yards — good for 9.4 fantasy points in PPR scoring. If he can find some way to the end zone, the payoff for owners would be huge.
