5 former NY Jets who are still free agents in June

The most notable remaining Jets free agent, who also happens to be the most likely to return, is linebacker Kwon Alexander.
The Jets signed Alexander to a dirt-cheap one-year contract last August to help fill a much-needed veteran void in their linebacker corps. The hope was that the oft-injured Alexander could stay healthy and serve as the team's starting SAM linebacker in the base defense.
That's exactly what happened too. Alexander appeared in more than 12 games for just the second time in his eight-year NFL career, playing all 17 games in 2022.
Not only did Alexander stay healthy, but he played 49 percent of the Jets' defensive snaps and was arguably the team's second-best linebacker behind C.J. Mosley. He was a good player, and the Jets have yet to fill his role.
Right now, the Jets are set to rely on the likes of Jamien Sherwood, Hamsah Nasirildeen, and Zaire Barnes at that third linebacker spot, but it would be wise for the team to bring in a veteran. Alexander makes the most sense.
The Jets were reportedly interested in re-signing Alexander prior to the 2023 NFL Draft. While it's unclear if they still covet him, Alexander has drawn some interest from the Pittsburgh Steelers, who he took an official visit with last month.
The 28-year-old has also hinted at a potential Jets reunion in his recent social media posts, so perhaps there still is some hope.
Alexander will sign with a new team before Week 1. Here's to hoping that team is the Jets.
