4 must-have NY Jets players to target in your fantasy football leagues
By Blair Yusko
The 2024 NFL season is rapidly approaching which means fantasy football drafts are beginning. Nobody wants to be that fan who has to endure a harsh punishment because they finished last in their fantasy football league.
Today, to help you avoid that brutal punishment and propel your team to success, let's look at four NY Jets that should make their way onto your roster this season.
Breece Hall, RB, NY Jets
Breece Hall enters the 2024 season as one of the most talented and exciting running backs in the NFL. After tearing his ACL just seven games into his rookie season, Hall bounced back hugely in 2023. He Inserted himself as one of the best all-around backs in the NFL and fantasy.
The 2022 second-round pick tallied 994 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 223 carries in 17 games last season. Besides his impressive ground numbers, Hall also hauled in 76 receptions for 591 yards and four touchdowns.
The Iowa State standout was able to do all of this while alongside the worst quarterback room in the NFL and running behind the worst offensive line football. The Jets rolled out 13 different combinations up front but that didn't stop Hall from finishing second among running backs in all-purpose yards with 1,585 yards.
Entering 2024, the 23-year-old should be near the top of everyone's draft boards. After touching the ball 299 times last season expect that number and production to only increase. Hall enters the 2024 fantasy season fifth overall in ADP and second among running backs in ADP with a projected 230.51 fantasy points this year.
Garrett Wilson, WR, NY Jets
What Garrett Wilson has done in his first two seasons in the NFL is remarkable considering the hand he has been dealt. In his first 34 games of his career, Wilson has caught passes from six different quarterbacks, none of them particularly good.
Despite this, the 24-year-old wideout has hauled in 178 receptions for 2,145 yards and seven touchdowns. In 2023, Wilson became the first Jets receiver since Keyshawn Johnson in 1998-1999 to have back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons.
The young wideout has done all of this despite not catching a pass from four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers. Entering 2024, Wilson's ADP ranking is seventh among wide receivers and 14th overall. The former Ohio State standout should especially become a dangerous weapon and high draft pick for PPR leagues.
With 95 receptions in 2023, Wilson with a healthy Rodgers should challenge the Jets' single-season reception record of 109, currently held by Brandon Marshall. An increase in touchdowns is also on the horizon with Rodgers at QB, Wilson could mirror a similar 10+ touchdown production as Davante Adams had while with Rodgers in Green Bay.
Mike Williams, WR, NY Jets
This season will be the first time Mike Williams is not wearing a Chargers uniform. Williams signed a one-year deal with the Jets in the offseason after spending the first seven years of his career in Los Angeles. The 2017 first-round pick out of Clemson has put together a solid career up to this point.
In 88 career games played, Williams has hauled in 309 receptions for 4,806 yards and 31 touchdowns. The veteran wideout has also surpassed 1,000 yards twice in his career as the number two wideout alongside Keenan Allen. Now he gets a chance to team up with Garrett Wilson and Aaron Rodgers in the Big Apple.
Despite suffering a torn ACL last season that ended his season three games, Williams still enters the 2024 campaign as an under-the-radar fantasy addition.
In his three games played before injury, Williams ranked top 15 among receivers in fantasy overall. While it was a very small sample size averaging 16.3 points per game, Williams was on his way to a big season.
The veteran wideout throughout his career has shown off big play potential, leading to fantasy success. Since 2021, Williams has achieved 90+ receiving yards in 11 games.
However, the wideout has also seen 10 games since 2021 where he had 40 yards or less. Inconsistency does affect Williams' draft stock, but he's still a valuable WR3/FLEX option and even a top player off the bench.
Aaron Rodgers, QB, NY Jets
Jets fans and fantasy owners were stripped another year of Aaron Rodgers under center four plays into the 2023 campaign. The veteran QB attempted a comeback last season but as the Jets' playoff hopes slipped away so did Rodgers' comeback aspirations. Entering 2024, Rodgers looks healthy and ready to so far in training camp.
Despite being ranked around QB20 in fantasy football rankings this year Rodgers could still be a solid addition. Even in a down year statistically for the veteran in 2022, he still ranked top-10 in touchdowns. Now the 40-year-old has improved offensive line play in front of him and is surrounded by a variety of weapons.
Is Rodgers going to put up top 5-7 QB fantasy production this year? Probably not. However, the future Hall of Famer who averaged 19.9 fantasy points in his final three seasons in Green Bay should find himself starting in deeper leagues.
