The first week of training camp for the NY Jets has come and gone, and already there are many things to take away from this limited practice time.
1. Fans are coming out in droves to see new-look NY Jets
Jets fans are clearly excited to see how their team looks going into this season, as they have been packing Florham Park to watch these practices.
Tickets for the first couple of weeks sold out extremely fast (I was, unfortunately, one of those who were left in the dust) and gave new Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers a loud standing ovation when he first appeared on the practice field.
2. NY Jets Rookie of the Year winners picking up where they left off
Garrett Wilson and Sauce Gardner both were stellar during their rookie seasons, winning both Offensive and Defensive Rookie of the Year, respectively, and many people wondered if they would continue to improve during their second season or if they would hit the dreaded "sophomore slump."
If this first week of camp has been any indication, I would put my money on the former.
Sauce Gardner had a very impressive pass breakup on Wilson early in camp, and the next day, Wilson followed it up with the catch of the week, making an incredible toe-tapping grab in the back of the endzone. I would expect big things from both of these players in year two.
3. NY Jets QB Aaron Rodgers is a difference-maker
It's no secret that the Jets' biggest weakness in 2022 was the quarterback position, so it should come as no surprise that adding a future Hall-of-Famer at the position in the offseason has had a major impact on the team.
Aaron Rodgers has been lighting it up so far in training camp, and just his presence alone has been a major difference-maker for this team.
Even Zach Wilson seems to be responding well, as he has been quietly stacking some very good practices together. Rodgers' addition has been absolutely invaluable to this team, and fans cannot wait to see how it translates onto the field in 2023 and beyond.
I expect to see many more positive reports as camp continues over the next few weeks. This team is special, and for the first time in a while, fans are beginning to see it manifest on the field. No matter what transpires in the future, this will absolutely be a season to remember for Jets fans.
