3 best prop bets for NY Jets vs. Dolphins in Week 18
By Justin Fried
The NY Jets are preparing for their final game of the 2022 season as they'll look to play spoiler against their division rivals. That's the only thing they will be playing for too after the team was officially eliminated from playoff contention last Sunday.
Both the Jets and Dolphins have lost five consecutive games and have suffered late-season collapses. However, Miami still has a chance at the postseason — they need a win and a little help in Week 18 to make it happen.
The Jets will be starting Joe Flacco at quarterback as Mike White will return to the sideline due to his ribs injury. It will be Flacco's first start since Week 3, and it'll come against Dolphins' third-string quarterback, Skylar Thompson.
Who will emerge victorious in this late-season divisional clash? As always, all odds are courtesy of FanDuel.
Game odds refresh periodically and are subject to change.
Garrett Wilson OVER 58.5 receiving yards (-113)
Garrett Wilson is no longer the favorite for Offensive Rookie of the Year following his disappointing outing against the Seattle Seahawks a week ago. This will be his final chance to make a case to voters.
Fortunately for Wilson, the rookie wide receiver found excellent chemistry with Flacco early in the season. Wilson averaged a whopping 11 targets per game in Flacco's three starts this season.
The Jets' offensive line injuries threaten to derail the offense's production, but if one receiver is going to produce at a high level this week, the safe money is on Garrett Wilson.
Raheem Mostert OVER 44.5 rushing yards (-113)
Expect the Dolphins to lean heavily on their ground game with rookie Skylar Thompson starting at quarterback. It's always risky when betting with the Dolphins backfield because of the close-to-even split between Jeff Wilson and Raheem Mostert.
That said, I feel more comfortable betting on Mostert this week. The eight-year pro has been more efficient with his touches as Wilson has failed to top 45 rushing yards in any of his last five games.
Mostert has the speed to break a long run which increases his chances of actually hitting the over. The Jets struggled to contain Kenneth Walker last week and the Dolphins will likely look to exploit their opponent's same weaknesses.
Skylar Thompson UNDER 1.5 passing touchdowns (-245)
I don't expect Skylar Thompson to find much success against the Jets' defense this week. The rookie seventh-round pick struggled mightily when thrust into action last week and didn't fare much better in his first NFL appearance against the Jets in Week 5.
Thompson has just one passing touchdown to his name, that coming last week against the New England Patriots. He's been inaccurate, erratic, and seemingly overwhelmed by the situation he's been placed in at times.
Now, with his team's postseason hopes on the line, Thompson is being asked to lead his team to victory against the best cornerback duo in the NFL. Sauce Gardner and D.J. Reed will not make life easy for Thompson on Sunday, even with Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle doing their thing.
I feel very safe taking the under on his passing touchdown prop.
