The New York Jets, unwilling to endure another season with far below-average run defense and overall pass rush, remade their defensive line in the 2026 NFL offseason. While they broke the bank for a few noteworthy names, Darren Mougey also found great value when he signed former Green Bay Packers role player Kingsley Enagbare to a one-year contract.
Enagbare will serve as a role player who can help the edge and provide more experience to a Jets room that is lacking quite a bit in that area.
According to Freddie Boston, the site expert at FanSided's Green Bay Packers site Lombardi Ave, Enagbare is a very known quantity as a player who needs to be used in a very specific way in order to get the most out of him.
"Kingsley Enagbare isn't a flashy player, but he carved out a niche as a reliable run defender in Green Bay," Boston said. "What the Jets won't get from Enagbare is consistent pass-rushing prowess. His pressure tally lagged significantly behind his teammates' last season. Lukas Van Ness had more pressures despite playing seven fewer games."
Packers expert gives mixed review to new Jets signing Kingsley Enagbare
Enagbare has played in all 68 possible games over the last four years, and the former fifth-round pick has tallied 11.5 sacks and 31 quarterback hits during those four years. Those numbers won't make anyone jump for joy, but they look solid when considering his role and spot on the Jets' depth chart.
Enagbare may only be on a one-year contract, but the Jets brought him in due to their organizational focus on building a team that can stop the run at an elite level. To that end, Enagbare joins trade acquisition T'Vondre Sweat, free agent addition David Onyemata, and draftee Darrell Jackson Jr. on the defensive line.
The Jets' current starting edge rusher duo consists of No. 2 pick David Bailey and former first-rounder Will McDonald. The latter was considered an auspicious top pick by some due to his lack of elite run defense, and the former has been the league's worst run defender for years on end.
Enagbare's ability to force his way into being a consistent role player for a winning team should appeal to a Jets squad that is trying anything possible to positively change the culture. With the pass rush looking as pathetic as it was last year, Enagbare will be a welcome addition.
