Just when it seems like it can't get any worse for the 2024 NY Jets, it does. On Sunday afternoon, New York got embarrassed 40-14 against the division rival Buffalo Bills in Orchard Park. This game got so bad that veteran Tyrod Taylor was called in to replace Aaron Rodgers in the fourth quarter.
It was more of the same for Aaron Rodgers and the Jets offense for the first three quarters. They had drives start with a few positive plays and then turnovers and failed third and fourth-down conversion attempts ended drives. Rodgers finished the day with two interceptions and an abysmal 112 passing yards.
The Jets also committed a season-high 16 penalties for 120 yards, which continues to solidify their spot for most penalties committed by a team this season. If New York remains on top after next week, it'll be the second year in a row where Gang Green leads the league in penalties.
This game was another reminder of everything that is currently wrong with this franchise. However, the one positive takeaway is the Jets took a sizeable jump in the 2025 NFL Draft order after today's debacle.
Where do the NY Jets pick in the 2025 NFL Draft order?
Rank | Team | Record |
---|---|---|
1 | New England Patriots | 3-13 |
2 | Tennessee Titans | 3-13 |
3 | Cleveland Browns | 3-13 |
4 | New York Giants | 3-13 |
5 | Jacksonville Jaguars | 4-12 |
6 | Carolina Panthers | 4-12 |
7 | New York Jets | 4-12 |
8 | Las Vegas Raiders | 4-12 |
9 | Chicago Bears | 4-12 |
10 | New Orleans Saints | 5-11 |
With today's loss, the Jets fell to 4-12 on the season. After the Bears lost on Thursday night, the Jets fell back one spot to the ninth overall pick coming into today. With today's blowout loss, though, the Jets have now jumped up two spots to the seventh overall pick in the draft.
The Jets could have jumped up to fifth overall in the draft if the Browns defeated the Dolphins. Coming into the week, the Jets had already clinched a top-10 pick but had a 24.3% chance of getting a top-5 pick.
As bad as today's game was, looking at the big picture, losing these games gives the next GM/HC the best chance to find solutions to this mess on draft night. For too long, New York has won meaningless games in December, costing them a premiere draft pick, but this year, outside of their win over the Jaguars, this team is so bad they continue to lose games.
The Jets will close out the 2024 season at MetLife Stadium next week when they host the Miami Dolphins. They will finish either 4-13 or 5-12, barring a tie.
