NY Jets plummet closer to No. 1 overall draft pick after Week 11 collapse
By Justin Fried
The NY Jets are the undisrupted kings of losing. Never has there been an NFL team so adept at finding new ways to lose football games. The 2024 New York Jets are a special breed.
Just when you think they've exhausted every possible way to implode, they manage to dig deeper, finding fresh and more painful ways to let everyone down.
This season, they've turned losing into an art form. They've displayed a relentless commitment to heartbreak that would be impressive if it weren't so tragic. Every week, the Jets redefine what it means to unravel.
This week was just the latest example of that. Aaron Rodgers and the Jets led 24-16 with around 10 minutes to play in the game and could've taken a two-score lead had interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich elected to go for two after their last touchdown.
Instead, Ulbrich trusted his defense to hold tight against a Colts team led by Anthony Richardson, who had completed 44 percent of his passes on the season entering the game.
Richardson started 6-of-7 for 96 yards and finished 20-of-30 for 272 yards and a touchdown, leading a dramatic comeback win with two late scoring drives. Rodgers had a chance to do the same, only to completely fall flat on his face — literally and figuratively.
NY Jets improve draft position with Week 11 loss to Colts
The silver lining for the Jets is that a win over the Colts would have accomplished very little. It only would've prolonged the inevitable, which is that this Jets season has been a complete and utter disaster.
The Jets weren't making a miracle late-season playoff run even if they found a way to hold on against the Colts. At least a loss here improves the team's draft position.
The Jets are just one game out of the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. At 3-8, they're currently tied with a host of teams for what could be anywhere between the 5th and 8th pick, pending the results of today's games.
This game is only further proof that the Jets must completely reset their organization in the offseason. That starts with the front office and coaching staff and extends to the man under center. Rodgers just can't get it done anymore.
The Jets may not have saved their season, but they did do their next general manager a favor. Get ready to fire up Tankathon every week from here on out.
