NY Jets fans and analysts alike are excited about the arrival of new head coach Aaron Glenn. Glenn officially signed a five-year contract with the organization on Wednesday, ushering in a new era of Jets football.

Many fans are eagerly anticipating Glenn's first official comments as Jets head coach, but they'll need to exercise some patience. His introductory press conference is scheduled for Monday at 1 pm ET.

Glenn will spend the next few days assisting the Jets in their search for a new general manager and putting together his first staff as a head coach — two ventures that are probably a bit more important than his introductory press conference.

The Jets are reportedly close to finalizing their general manager hire while coaching staff additions should be announced in the near future. As for Glenn, he'll have an extra couple of days to prepare for his first media session as Jets head coach.

Update on Mike Westhoff

One name that Glenn is reportedly considering for his initial Jets coaching staff is longtime NFL special teams coordinator Mike Westhoff. Many were caught by surprise when Westhoff's name was mentioned as a possible candidate for Glenn's staff on Wednesday, and there's a good reason for that.

Westhoff, who has retired from coaching on multiple occasions, most recently served as the assistant head coach of the Denver Broncos before he stepped away from the team due to health issues. That was only a few months ago, November to be exact.

ESPN radio's Don La Greca reported on Thursday that Westhoff is not expected to join the Jets' coaching staff in an official capacity, but that he is expected to help Glenn with potential hires and offer his services to work with the Jets during training camp.

Given his age and recent health issues, it’s unrealistic to expect Westhoff — who served as the Jets' special teams coordinator from 2001 to 2012 — to return in a full-time coaching role. However, having him involved with the team in any capacity should still be seen as a significant win.

Jets trying to retain multiple assistant coaches

The Jets were arguably one of the worst-coached teams in the NFL in 2024, so it should come as no surprise that the organization is looking to execute almost a complete overhaul of the coaching staff. Not every coach may be looking for a new job, however.

The Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt is reporting that Glenn and the Jets have interest in potentially bringing back senior defensive assistant and cornerbacks coach Tony Oden and defensive line coach Aaron Whitecotton in 2025.

Oden notably coached in Houston and New Orleans while Glenn was playing for both teams and has garnered a stellar reputation for his work with the Jets' cornerbacks over the last few seasons.

Whitecotton is also held in high regard around the league and would likely garner plenty of interest if let go. The Jets will revamp most of their staff, but it's possible Oden and Whitecotton will be retained under Glenn.
