It's a new era at One Jets Drive. On Wednesday afternoon, the NY Jets hired Aaron Glenn as the franchise's new head coach. After a long search, it became clear that Glenn was New York's top candidate for the job.
Aaron Glenn now returns to the franchise where he notably spent eight seasons as a player from 1994-2001, now looking to turn the organization around as a head coach. One of the biggest questions that now remains for the Jets is who their next GM is going to be.
Earlier in the week all signs pointed towards an Aaron Glenn and Lance Newmark pairing after the two were interviewed in person on Tuesday. However, the Jets have since expanded their list of finalists for the GM job, as the wait is now on to see who is paired with Glenn.
The NY Jets are still searching for a new GM
The Jets added two more finalists to their GM search on Wednesday as Darren Mougey and Trey Brown are expected to receive second interviews. This is now three known finalists out of the long list of candidates who have/are going to interview in person for the job.
Darren Mougey spent just two seasons in the NFL as a practice squad wide receiver for the Falcons and Cardinals after going undrafted in 2009. Shortly after his playing career was over, Mougey joined the Broncos in 2012 as a scouting intern where he has been ever since.
The 39-year-old has worked his way up the front office hierarchy over the last 13 years, going from a variety of different roles in scouting and player personnel to most recently becoming Denver's assistant general manager in 2022. Mougey reportedly has a close relationship with Sean Payton, who remains close with Aaron Glenn from their days with the Saints.
Similar to Mougey, Trey Brown also went undrafted out of college, and after a stint on the Bears' practice squad in 2008, his front-office journey began. Brown started with the Patriots for three seasons from 2010-2012, where he worked as a scout.
Since then, Brown has spent six seasons with the Eagles in multiple different scouting roles and has even had stints in the AAF and XFL. The 39-year-old is now the senior personnel executive with the Bengals, where he has held that role since 2022. Brown similar to Mougey and Newmark would be a first-time GM.
More names could still come out as finalists for the GM job, but as of now, New York has their eyes set on either Newmark, Mougey, or Brown to pair with new head coach Aaron Glenn.
