The NY Jets have seemingly identified Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn as one of their top head coach candidates. The Jets will have competition from other teams, but one notable competitor will not be included in the race.
That's because Glenn reportedly declined an interview with the New England Patriots for their vacant head coach position on Thursday. Glenn has interviews lined up with the Jets, Saints, Raiders, Bears, and Jaguars, but he won't be headed to Foxborough.
Glenn's lack of interest in the Patriots' job is likely due to the fact that most believe the position will go to either Mike Vrabel or Ben Johnson. The ex-Jets cornerback likely didn't want to waste his time interviewing to fill a quota for the Patriots.
Glenn is expected to draw considerable interest from both the Jets and Saints, who are seen as the two most likely destinations. As for the Patriots, they'll have to look elsewhere in their search for a new head coach.

Other NY Jets news:
Jets now have more GM competition
The Jets entered the offseason hiring cycle as the only team with a general manager opening. That changed this week after the Tennessee Titans somewhat surprisingly parted ways with now-former GM Ran Carthon after just two seasons.
You can add a third team to that growing list now that the Las Vegas Raiders have fired Tom Telesco after just one year with the organization. The move came as a bit of a stunner, especially given the success Telesco had in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Nonetheless, there are now three teams looking for a new general manager this offseason. The Jets, who once believed they would have the pick of the litter in the GM market, now have a bit more competition.
The good news is that neither the Titans nor the Raiders' job is especially appealing. The Titans retained head coach Brian Callahan while the Raiders run through coaches and GMs quicker than any organization in the league.
Jets sign a CFL wide receiver
The Jets may not really have a general manager at the moment, but they're still making signings. The team reportedly agreed to a deal with CFL wide receiver Ontaria Wilson on Thursday.
Nicknamed "Pokey," Wilson hauled in 71 passes for 1,026 yards and three touchdowns in his first season with the CFL's Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2024. The Jets actually brought Wilson in on a visit last month. Now, with the CFL signing window open, he receives a contract.
Wilson played his college ball at Florida State, where he racked up 108 passes for 1,521 yards and 12 touchdowns over five years. He signed with the Los Angeles Chargers as an undrafted free agent in 2023 but was released as part of final roster cuts.
At 6-foot-1, 175 pounds, Wilson also has experience returning kicks/punts and made an impact on special teams in Winnipeg. He will compete for a roster spot with the Jets this summer.
