The New York Jets have hit the reset button this offseason, which started with the hiring of general manager Darren Mougey and head coach Aaron Glenn. These two first-timers will be in charge of turning around an organization currently entrenched in a 14-year playoff drought.
Since taking over in January, Mougey and Glenn have begun to overhaul the front office. New York has done this with both additions and subtractions, looking for much-needed fresh blood in the organization.
New York initiated this process by hiring former Vikings general manager Rick Spielman as a senior football advisor. Mougey also added a familiar face from the Broncos in Rob Paton, while Phil Savage moved into a consultant role.
Some of the front office subtractions have included Kevin Murphy, Greg Nejmeh, and David Socie. This trio spent a combined 31 seasons with the Jets.
With the draft in the rearview, the Jets have continued their front office changes, with more moves taking place, including much-needed additions to the analytics department.
Darren Mougey and Aaron Glenn are making significant changes to NY Jets front office
On Tuesday, it was announced that the Jets were hiring T.J. McCreight in an unspecified executive role. McCreight will bring 25+ years of football experience to One Jets Drive.
McCreight started his career with the Ravens, where he spent eight seasons from 1997-2004 in two different scouting roles. He then spent three seasons with the Cardinals from 2009-2011 before going to the Colts in 2012, where he spent five seasons with the team until 2016.
McCreight's most recent NFL team work came with the Eagles from 2017-2021, where he was the Player Personnel Executive. Since then, the football lifer has worked for the 33rd Team and the Senior Bowl.
The Jets also hired JaLun Morris as a scout. Morris has been a player personnel assistant with the Raiders since 2022. Before that, Morris spent five seasons with Alabama, followed by three and a half years with UAB, working in both programs' recruiting departments.
Another change that New York made was promoting Thomas Witty to a pro scout. Witty started with the Jets as a player personnel intern in 2021 and has since worked his way up the front office hierarchy.
Arguably, the two biggest moves to the front office for the Jets over the past week were their improvements to the analytics department. The Jets promoted Arjun Menon to Football Analytics Assistant and hired Sean Clement into an analytics director role.
Menon has been an intern with the team since 2023, and prior to that, while attending Michigan University, he was a data analyst for Michigan Football, including during their National Championship season.
As for Sean Clement, his most recent role came with SumerSports as the Vice President of Football Operations for the analytics site. Clement has also been in consultation roles with many teams, including the Ravens and Dolphins.
All of these moves to the front office, especially the analytics department, are a welcome sight to Jets fans. Currently in the midst of a 14-year playoff drought, Mougey and Glenn needed to come in and drain the swamp. They are doing just that.
The organization has found itself deep into a losing culture full of complacency that desperately needs a wake-up call. Since taking over in January, Mougey and Glenn are hitting all of the right buttons in Florham Park.
