The New York Jets have to execute the 2025 NFL Draft in a big way, as this team needs to put forth a foundational offensive class. Former Denver Broncos executive Darren Mougey is now running the show for the New York Jets. Aaron Glenn is the new head coach, and he comes from the Sean Payton tree.
It's clear the kind of culture that the Jets want to establish, but this is all much easier said than done. Fortunately, they do not have to do a ton of work on the defensive side of the ball, as that unit is filled with stud players. Their focus should primarily be on the offensive side of the ball in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Would this offensive-focused class be a foundational one for the New York Jets?
NY Jets 2025 NFL Mock Draft: Team lands a foundational offensive class
7. Shedeur Sanders, QB, Colorado
If the New York Giants are not taking Shedeur Sanders at pick three, there is absolutely a chance that Sanders falls to pick seven. You have to wonder if that's currently that GM Darren Mougey is hoping for? Sanders might have a lower ceiling as an NFL QB, as I have seen some compare him to Geno Smith, but he certainly could develop into a starter and would be a much better option than Justin Fields.
42. Cameron Williams, OT, Texas
Getting a tall and lengthy right tackle at pick 42 is some good work by the front office, as the Jets take Cameron Williams from Texas in their quest to continue rebuilding the offensive line. The trenches on either side of the ball is where games in the NFL are won and lost, so without a competent OL, Justin Fields and whoever else plays QB for the Jets will be running for their life.
73. Jayden Higgins, WR, Iowa State
Getting a wide receiver who could be a nice compliment to Garrett Wilson, the New York Jets nab the hyper-athletic Jayden Higgins from Iowa State at pick 72. There hasn't been a ton of news about a potential Wilson extension, but you have to figure the two sides have had some dialogue. At least, that's the hope.
With a strong backfield and now filling a huge hole at WR, the Jets offensive playmakers are beginning to come into shape quite nicely.
110. Terrance Ferguson, TE, Oregon
But it gets even better, as the Jets are able to land Terrance Ferguson from Oregon in this mock draft. The team does not have a competent tight end solution at the moment, and with them currently projected to start Jeremy Ruckert, an upgrade for the present and the long-term is absolutely needed here.
145. CJ West, DT, Indiana
Now focusing on the defensive side of the ball for a minute, the Jets grab defensive tackle CJ West from Indiana at pick 145. One thing you have to give former GM Joe Douglas credit for is the solid work he did for the Jets along the defensive line, so that unit really doesn't need a ton of work in my opinion.
162. Dillon Gabriel, QB, Oregon
You just never know what Dillon Gabriel could develop into... The Jets do not have a franchise QB on the roster, so they should not hesitate to draft two quarterbacks a year until they find one. It may sound silly, as Gabriel might not have a great shot at anything more than a backup, but there are always late-round QBs who carve out a starting career in the NFL.
It does not happen often, but it happens.
186. Kitan Crawford, S, Nevada
With the New York Jets apparently having interest in signing Talanoa Hufanga in free agency, they might want to invest a bit of draft capital on a safety in the 2025 NFL Draft. Kitan Crawford had 76 total tackles in 2024 for Nevada, so he has a nose for the ball and might be a future starter for Aaron Glenn's defenses.
207. Jack Sawyer, EDGE, Ohio State
The New York Jets finish up this NFL mock draft with Jack Sawyer from Ohio State and simply try to make their defensive line as rock-solid as possible. Sawyer had nine tackles for loss and nine sacks for the Buckeyes in the 2024 college footbal season.
