The NY Jets' fanbase nearly had a collective heart attack on Thursday, as quarterback Justin Fields suffered a lower leg injury that forced him into the locker room via cart. Luckily for everyone involved, the injury doesn't seem to be as bad as many originally feared.
Fields suffered a dislocated toe, which will likely put him on ice for a few days. Head coach Aaron Glenn said that Fields is day-to-day after his injury, which is a much better outcome than a fanbase overwhelmed by negativity was expecting.
Fields isn't letting the injury get him down. In fact, Fields looks ready to get back under center as soon as possible.
Fields was seen jogging out to practice just one day after sustaining his toe injury. While Tyrod Taylor took over the reps in team drills, the fact that Fields felt good enough to be out there with his teammates shows that he might be back on the field sooner rather than later.
NY Jets QB Justin Fields returns to practice field after injury
Mike Garafolo is one of many insiders who confirmed that the injury is not expected to cost Fields much (if any) time in the regular season. The Jets are in a weird spot, as they are not expected to win many games this season, but any injury to Fields would be devastating.
Fields signed a two-year contract with the Jets in the offseason, but most of the money owed to him will come this season. This means that he must essentially prove his worth heading into 2026, as the Jets could draft a quarterback to replace him if this move doesn't work out.
The Jets have gone all-in on Fields' ability, building one of the best run-blocking offensive lines in the league by selecting Armand Membou in the NFL Draft and hiring Tanner Engstrand away from a Detroit Lions team that had two 1,000-yard rushers last season.
Jets fans will be watching Fields as intently as any other player on the roster in 2025, which made the injury even more difficult to stomach. The good news for fans is that Fields seems to be in good spirits and chomping at the bit to get back on the field.
