The New York Jets have very few things to shout about in their winless 2025 season, but wide receiver Garrett Wilson is one of them. Even that has been taken away from a fanbase that is in such a pit of despair that it feels impossible to escape from.

Amid a 0-6 start and more of that classic Jets turmoil, Wilson has continued to produce at a level that is becoming of a player who just signed a very expensive four-year contract extension. However, there will be a bump in the road that could further derail this offense.

Wilson, who has played in all 57 games he has been available for in his NFL career, suffered a knee injury in the narrow Week 6 loss against the Denver Broncos. The MRI was a double-edged sword, as he avoided major injury but will still miss a few weeks with this knee ailment.

While Jets fans should be relieved that this is not an injury that is going to cost him the better part of the season, an offense that is already struggling to push the ball down the field is going to be in an even more precarious spot now that Wilson has found himself on the mend.

Even with the Denver game, poor quarterback play, and minimal help from his supporting cast, his receptions and yards per game are almost identical to what he put on tape last season. He has lived up to the hype.

The only consistent way the Jets can move the ball through the air (when Fields isn't taking a ton of sacks) is getting Wilson in single coverage and letting him go to work. Without him, the options for any quarterback, let alone one playing as poorly as Fields, are slim to say the least.

Look for rookie tight end Mason Taylor to become the focal point of the passing game. Josh Reynolds and rookie Arian Smith might lead the team in targets while Wilson is out. If Breece Hall is not traded, look for him to receive a good chunk of work as a pass-catching threat out of the backfield.

Wilson's injury is a death knell for this offense, as they will now try to create an NFL passing game with two rookies and zero veteran NFL players who can consistently get open. Anyone hoping the Jets can turn things around after their near-miss against the Broncos is in for a dose of reality.
